Marines launched a major offensive into the Taliban heartlands of southern Afghanistan 2 July as President Barack Obama's new war plan swung into action. With dozens of aircraft ferrying out troops from various bases, the assault aimed to insert forces into insurgent strongholds in Helmand province in what officers said was the biggest offensive airlift by the Marines since Vietnam. O'Shea led a team of 16 Marines and one Navy Corpsman who provided security for 6 geologists as they searched for rare earth elements and industrial minerals. The team took about 200 pounds of rock samples from the area. They will analyze the samples in a lab and provide the results to the Minister of Mines for Afghanistan. The Minister of Mines can use the information to attract investors. A mining operation in this area could create funding for the Afghan government and provide thousands of jobs.

Bei den Amerikanern haben die Hubschrauber schon länger zwei Triebwerke gehabt und mit der neuen aufbereitung haben sie dann ebenso wie der AH-1 vier Rotorblätter bekommen und die horizontalen Turbinenauslässe. Bei den geringen Stückzahlen die das USMC hat, sind moderniesierungen eben billiger als eine neue Anforderung.

Der " UH-1Y „Venom" hat aber nichts wirklich gemeinsam mit dem in Vietnam eingesetzten UH-1A. Der " UH-1Y Venom" ist ein modernisierte Version des UH-1N auf Basis der Bell 412 der viel später in dienst gestellt wurde.bei den " UH-1Y „Venom" handelt es sich um 113 Neubauten und 18 umgebaute ältere Maschinen. sonst alles so richtig wie Sharp gesagt hat, nicht das hier der Anschein erweckt wird die Dinger haben was mit denen aus Vietnam Zeiten zu tun.
